ZAP AHN DR ZAISER WITH THE PENNSYLVANIA DEATH PENALTY…TERROR BY - is what I saw when scrolling through my feed today. It got me thinking about the state of our justice system and the inherent biases that affect Black people every day.
A Broken System
The death penalty is a flawed and cruel system, disproportionately affecting Black and brown people. Studies show that race plays a significant role in determining who gets sentenced to death, with Black people being more likely to receive the death penalty than white people.
Furthermore, the criminal justice system is stacked against Black people from the moment of arrest. Black people are more likely to be stopped, searched, and arrested than white people, even when committing the same crimes.
Once within the system, Black people are more likely to be charged with more serious offenses and receive harsher sentences than white people. This is not justice; this is systematic racism.
Dig for Victory
On a lighter note, I came across this vintage poster with the slogan “Dig for Victory.” It reminded me of the importance of self-sufficiency, especially for Black people in this country. Historically, Black people have had to rely on our own resources and ingenuity to survive and thrive in a world that often works against us.
The poster encourages people to plant their own gardens, grow their own food, and contribute to the war effort. It shows that even in times of uncertainty, it is possible to take control of our own lives and make something out of nothing.
Moving Forward
We live in a society that is stacked against Black people, but we cannot let that stop us from striving for a better future. We need to continue fighting for justice and dismantling systems that perpetuate racism.
But, we also need to take control of our own lives and find ways to be self-sufficient, whether that means growing our own food, starting our own businesses, or supporting Black-owned companies.
We have a long road ahead of us, but by working together and supporting each other, we can create a world that is more just and equitable for all.
Remember, ZAP AHN DR ZAISER WITH THE PENNSYLVANIA DEATH PENALTY…TERROR BY is not just a catchy slogan; it is a reminder of the work we have yet to do.
